(1) The industrial ruby used in the reference spheres at the ends of the ladders is 99.99% made of Al2O3. Its density is between 3.98 and 3.99 g/cm3 (c). Other quoted values of density for Al2O3 are: 3.970 g/cm3 (a) and 4.000 g/cm3 (b).
