The 4DInSiDe goals

4DInSiDe project aims to extend the range of applicability of UFSD sensors by:

     Develop an advanced simulation model of LGADs

     Improving their radiation resistance

     Reducing the material budget

     Developing a design with  a 100% fill factor

     Implementing  a very thin rear entrance windows for application in photon science.

Ten years ago, silicon sensors were not considered accurate timing devices.  

Thanks to the introduction of the the Low-Gain Avalanche Diode  (LGAD) design, silicon sensors are now considered the ultimate timing detectors. Ultra-Fast Silicon Detectors (UFSD), LGAD optimized for timing, are able to achieve a temporal precision of 30 ps.
